Turkish Counter-Strike has been revived with the spectacular run of Eternal Fire at the Copenhagen Major. In-game leader Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli reflected on the tournament after the loss in the Quarter-Finals against NAVI.

For the first time in history, 33-year-old Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli qualified for the Playoff stage at a Major with Eternal Fire’s 2-1 win against Virtus.pro. The in-game leader carried his team on both Vertigo and Inferno, where he set the perfect example to guide his team to victory.

"I feel very happy and very tired," Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli said in an interview after the match before reflecting on his own performance. "After the first map, I felt that my teammates weren’t in good shape today, so I said to myself: 'Bro, you have to do it. You have to set a good example for your teammates. You have to lead from the front and secure entry-kills,'" the Turkish captain said.

Now, Eternal Fire finds themselves among the top eight teams in the tournament. The Quarter-Finals will take place next Thursday and Friday, with Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli and the rest of the Eternal Fire roster among the participants. So, how far can they go?

"Now the goal is maybe to win it! I didn’t want to say it, but we will do our best," MAJ3R said. Eternal Fire, Spirit, and MOUZ are the three teams who have qualified so far for the next stage in Copenhagen.

Whilst currently ranked number 34 in the world, according to the official HLTV rankings, Eternal Fire is a roster that almost any CS:GO fan will know. With flamboyant superstarts like "XANTARES" and "woxic", Eternal Fire have proven their ability to take down some of the biggest names in the professional CS:GO scene. With group D of ESL Pro League Season 18, about to kick off later today (September 20th.) the Turkish roster will look to prove themselves once more on the big stages.

We spoke to the Turkish captain of Eternal Fire Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli about the current status of the roster, as well as their chances of making it through a difficult group at the ESL Pro League Season 18. 

At the age of 32, "MAJ3R" is more experienced than most CS:GO players in the current professional scene. Whilst the experience is undoubtedly a strong suit for the IGL in-game, the preparation going into the event can be just as important.

The ESL Pro League Season 18 is an event that any team within the CS:GO scene would be proud to win. This is perhaps even more true with season 18 having the possibility of being the last CS:GO event before CS2 takes over. "MAJ3R" had the following to say: 

The Turkish roster of Eternal Fire have gone through a tumultuous year in terms of roster changes. Star AWP'er "woxic" left the roster earlier this year, after being benched for 2 months, but is once again a part of the team. Hesitant to go international, "MAJ3R" touches upon some of the difficulties of having an all-Turkish roster.

The Turkish roster of Eternal Fire has always packed a punch when it comes to firepower and raw individual skill. Having had signs of success in the past two months, Eternal Fire might be on to a winning formula after all this time. Having just played a close match against Cloud9, although losing, Eternal Fire can look forward to, hopefully, starting their ESL Pro League Season 18 run strong. 

Eternal Fire are starting their run at ESL Pro League Season 18 by challenging the scary-looking Cloud9 once again. The battle takes place later today (September 20th.) at 19:30 (EST).

This Saturday, Eternal Fire presented Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli as the new player of the organization, welcoming him back just one month after they parted ways. MAJ3R left the CS:GO scene last month to pursue a career in Riot’s FPS VALORANT for the second time, but is now back to complete the Turkish lineup. With his comeback to the roster, the move has brought some role changes within the lineup, with Ömer “imoRR” Karatas returning to the AWP role now that MAJ3R is retaking the IGL role.

The first time MAJ3R left CS:GO for VALORANT was in October of 2021, and the second transition practically didn’t even start, as he was quickly called back to CS:GO.

The day after being eliminated from the EU RMR tournament in Malta, Eternal Fire announced a roster move.

- We part ways with Engin “MAJ3R” KÜPELİ and include Yasin “xfl0ud” KOÇ in the active roster. We wish you success in your career and life, captain.

19-year-old Yasin “xfl0ud” KOÇ is back on the team again after his second time on the bench in 2022 alone. 

Eternal Fire reached their highest position on HLTV's World Ranking in September going 18th in the World after winning two matches at ESL Pro League and winning the qualifier for BLAST Showdown. At the EU RMR, Eternal Fire lost to Bad News Eagles, Astralis, and Fnatic. The departure of Engin “MAJ3R” KÜPEL comes after just three months with the experienced Turk on the roster. MAJ3R had returned to CS:GO from the Valorant scene, and in a TweetLonger post, he explains his view of the benching.

- Hello everyone, unfortunately things didn’t go as planned in EF. I’m out from the project early definitely and wish them good luck further in their adventure. 3 months has been pretty hard to be honest psychologically there in all aspects but I feel like I’m released strangely. For them I was not enough and the problem was me, from my eyes it’s completely different but speaking details will not make any things better, I have to respect their choose. Someone has to pay the checks and with my position I understand that’s I’m the one who pay it, that part of the job baby. I ll take time to see what options I have because these 3 months showed me that I still have something to do here. İndividually I feel great and as a leader. I love esport so much and most of all, I believe in my self very much. Im still motivate to play and be somewhere where i can have controle and build something healthy and good.
