After three straight losses, Imperial is done and dusted at ESL Pro League Season 17. The South American team lost in the Last Chance Stage to Complexity.

It started horribly wrong for Complexity though. The NA team went behind 12-0 on Inferno before finally answering back. The map was over almost before it had begun. Complexity’s star player, Michael 'Grim' Wince had a nightmare map clocking in a 0.26 rating during the 17 rounds it took Imperial to win 16-1.

Ancient was up next, and luckily, we got to see another side of the Complexity squad. The current no. 11 in the world was able to lock in their own map with a 16-14 win despite a valiant effort from the Brazilian professor Gabriel 'FalleN' Toledo. The experienced Brazilian had played lights out on both Inferno and Ancient.

On Overpass that didn’t change. In a very evenly fought match the two teams had to settle the score in triple overtime before a winner was found. Here Complexity can thank in-game leader Johnny 'JT' Theodosiou for staying alive in the match. The South African won a 1vs4 situation to give his team the opportunity to win the match, which was finally done at 25-23!

Complexity face the loser of FURIA vs BIG in the next stage tomorrow, where the winner gets the chance to advance to the 4th place decider match Sunday evening.

Yesterday Complexity got handed a devastating loss at ESL Pro League Season 16 when they fell short against the world leaders from FaZe, despite a stellar showing on Overpass and Inferno.

After the match, Complexity captain, Johnny “JT” Theodosiou, took his time to speak with ESL where he touched on the current state of the team and the upcoming Major.

- I don’t think we ever will be satisfied until we are a Top 5 or Top 1 team. So I don’t want to say that we are satisfied but we are very optimistic right now. We are beating a lot of good teams, we came really close against the #1 team in the world FaZe. We’re looking forward to the Major to see how well we can do there if we qualify obviously.  

JT doesn’t neglect the importance of stickers and the money it brings.

- For the RMR, we just want to qualify. As long as we qualify and get our stickers, we’re happy and from there take that little break and prepare for the Major and see what happens there. I wouldn’t say we have any expectations – the only one is to make the stickers.

- Before the game started, we actually thought about picking Ancient but I watched the demos back from both Ancient and Overpass, and I just saw there was a gameplan on Overpass where we could get a lot of T rounds – and that worked at the start of the game. I know the CT side, for any team on Overpass is really, really strong, if you get off to a great start. So yeah, I just think we had a really good gameplan going into things.

There are not a lot of positive things for Complexity to take with them on to the summer break after being eliminated at IEM Cologne, but still in-game leader Ioannis 'Johnny' "JT" Theodosiou tried to keep his head up high after a difficult time for the roster.

- For most of us, this is our first tier-1 season. So it is a little rough. We are trying to get into it and trying to get used to the environment, especially on LAN. This season was supposed to be a warm-up and something for us to improve as a team. Obviously, it's been going terribly. For most of us, this is probably the worst three months that we have had in our careers. Especially myself, FaNg, and junior. It's been a rough time. We need to get back on the server and grind as hard as we can and try to get back into it.

The new-look Complexity side will not compete with the most optimal conditions for their first-ever tournament together as a new roster. Because, the captain of the team, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou has announced on Tuesday night that he wasn’t able to travel with the squad to Europe due to him “waiting on his visa approval”.

The news comes after the confirmation of Complexity’s transfer of JT and the rest of Extra Salt in Justin “FaNg” Coakley and Ricky “floppy” Kemery. The trio is joined by the two promising North Americans Paytyn “Junior” Johnson and the former Liquid rifler Michael “Grim” Wince.

Extra Salt

Another North American team has confirmed their roster for the upcoming season. Complexity announced today that they have signed the current Extra Salt roster.

With the announcement Complexity and team owner Jason Lake (in picture) underlined their commitment to NA Counter-Strike with the words "We are coming home". The new lineup consists of four North Americans and the South African player Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou.

Michael "⁠Grim⁠" Wince and Paytyn "⁠junior⁠" Johnson transfers from Team Liquid and FURIA to complete the lineup with three Extra Salt players.

The team will make their debut tomorrow at Funspark Ultra 2021 Finals against no other than Gambit.

The newly established CS:GO team Extra Salt, who announced its entry on the CS:GO scene back in mid-December, has allegedly found their fifth and last player. According to HLTVorg, the promising NA team will round off its roster with the acquisition of Justin “FaNg” Coakley.

The 18-year old player has represented numerous smaller teams in the past, until he signed with the bigger American team of Rugratz in October 2020. In his time at Rugratz, the Canadian rifler displayed some strong CS and showed high potential by averaging a 1.09 rating and an 80.3 ADR.
